WV THESPIANS 9/26/09

President Stiles called the meeting to order at 12:15
The minutes from the last meeting and the agenda were approved followed by a brief recess for lunch.  After lunch, the meeting reconvened to address the following issues.

OLD BUSINESS:

President Stiles reported that the EdTA proposal to change the organization’s name to Thespian Honor Society had failed and the name would remain The International Thespian Society.

During the May meeting, the board authorized President Stiles to compose changes in the handbook concerning Junior Thespians and a wild card option for one-act plays. Following discussion, Martha Louden moved to accept the changes and Linda Pennell seconded the motion which passed unanimously.  The authorized changes will be made to the handbook and posted online at our website.

NEW BUSINESS:

Changes in the requirements for set design, with an added novice category, were presented to the board for consideration.  After discussion, Helen Freeman moved and Linda Pennell seconded that the changes be accepted.  The motion passed unanimously.

Helen Freeman asked the board to revisit the “actual school production” category for costuming and properties.  After a brief discussion, the idea died for lack of a motion.

Motion by Martha Louden, second by Linda Pennell to authorize Student Board advisor Steve Glendenning to write a proposal to change the method for electing student board members with President Stiles sending it for approval by the area representatives electronically.

The following area festivals were set:
Area 1-March 6th at Magnolia High School
Area 2-February 20th at Parkersburg South HS
Area 3-March 6th at Fairmont Sr. HS
Area 4-February 20th at Washington HS
Area 5-TBA at Tamarack
Area 6-March 6th at Capital HS



STUDENT BOARD:

All voting members of the student board were present.  Several other interested students also attended the meeting.

The students reported that the colors for the logo and T-shirt design are black and white.  Designs are due to the state director before January 15, 2010.

The meeting adjourned at 2:30PM following a motion by Amanda McPherson and a second by Martha Louden.


The next meeting is scheduled for January 16, 2009 at Pokey Dot.
