WV THESPIAN BOARD MEETING

Attendance:
Michael Stiles, State President
Area 1-Eileen Miller for Kelsey Hayward
Area 2-Amanda Witt for Jayne Whitlow
Area 3-Linda Pinnell
Area 4-Martha Louden
Area 5-Jeff Hudkins*
Area 6-NOT REPRESENTED
Others in attendance included Kathy Raspa( Fun Friend and Technophobe), Clare Snyder(State Festival Security), and Julia Lee(WVDE).
At the beginning of the meeting, President Stiles reported that Julia Lee was running late and that Steve Glendenning was hardly running at all. At that point he suggested that “We get the eating out of the way first.” Both the adult and student boards approved and we “went ta eatin.”
Following the meal and the arrival of our wayward pair, the meeting was called to order.
Approval of minutes…motion by Jeff Hudkins, second by Linda Penell. Passed
Approval of agenda….motion by Martha Louden, second by Amanda Witt. Passed.
Budget report and introduction of guests. No action required and none taken.
Old Business:
A proposal to redistrict counties in line with RESA Areas died for lack of motion.
Motion by Louden, second by Miller: Any costume entered as a project or worn onstage at the festival CANNOT be worn to the dance. Passed unanimously.
Motion by Pennell, second by Miller to consider a “wildcard” idea for the 2010 festival. The board approved of the idea and instructed President Stiles to work on the actual wording of the motion to be presented at the fall board meeting.
Motion by Miller, second by Hudkins to post the handbook on the website with free access to everybody. Passed unanimously.
A proposal to change the manner in which the student board is elected was tabled until the fall meeting.
New Business:
Motion by Pennell, second by Witt to make it clear that students entered into IE must provide their own music and C/D player. Passed
Motion by Hudkins, second by Pennell to allow only one entry per IE per school. Passed.
The following deadlines were established by the board:
Jan.5, 2010—deadline for state dues
Jan. 15, 2010—T-shirt Logo contest submissions due to the state director
Feb.TBA-All playwriting submissions due to Donna Early/ArtsLink
Mar. 7, 2010—Final date for all area festivals. NO FESTIVALS AFTER THIS DATE
Mar. 12, 2010—State forms and fees due to state director. Student board applications due to Steve Glendenning
Strict observance of the deadlines is required to meet Cultural Center Deadlines.
The following Area Festivals were set:
Area 1-March 6th at Magnolia High School
Area 2-March 6th at Parkersburg South High School
Area 3-TBA at Fairmont Sr. High School
Area 4-Feb. 20th at Washington High School
Area 5-TBA at Tamarack
Area 6-No information available
